The victim, identified as Nisha Kumbhar from Airoli, sustained multiple injuries during the assault.

The terrifying incident unfolded at approximately 1:30 pm when Kumbhar and her friend Khushi Kadam had just arrived at the bus stop outside Sterling College. They had stopped to review their hall tickets before continuing their journey. Suddenly, an unidentified man approached Kumbhar, wielding a glass bottle, and launched a sudden and unprovoked attack on her.

Despite being caught off guard, Kumbhar displayed remarkable presence of mind and managed to block the blows using her hand and bag. Although the bottle did not pierce her body, she sustained several injuries in the process. The assailant quickly fled the scene upon seeing people rushing to help the victim.

Thanks to the thorough investigation conducted by the local police in collaboration with the assistance of CCTV footage and eyewitness accounts, the accused was identified and apprehended on Tuesday. The perpetrator, identified as 26-year-old Imam Hassan Shamsud, was known to be a homeless man and drug addict who often frequented the pavements of Seawoods.

Kumbhar was immediately rushed to Apollo Hospital by her friend and concerned onlookers. Doctors determined that she had suffered ligament tears and a bone fracture in her hand, resulting in her undergoing surgery. Her recovery is expected to take approximately three months, casting doubt on her ability to complete her studies this year. Speaking about the incident, a senior police inspector from Nerul Police Station, Tanaji Bhagat, expressed his shock and condemnation of the attack.
