A 15-year-old boy was taken into custody following a dangerous car chase through Rancho Cucamonga on Wednesday. The San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department identified the suspect, who led deputies on a pursuit after being spotted driving without headlights near Baseline Road and Garnet Street at around 1:13 a.m.
Authorities attempted to pull the teenager over, but he refused to stop, prompting a high-speed chase. During the pursuit, the suspect disregarded multiple stop signs and red lights, endangering both himself and other motorists. He even crossed a center median and drove on the wrong side of the road, further escalating the danger.
The chase came to an abrupt end when the teenager crashed into a pole on Ramona Avenue. Undeterred, he quickly exited the vehicle and fled on foot into a nearby neighborhood. However, law enforcement officers on the scene, including a police helicopter, were able to track his movements. The helicopter guided authorities in the direction where the suspect had run, ultimately leading them to a backyard where he had jumped a fence. Deputies successfully apprehended the teenager, bringing the pursuit to a close.
Following his arrest, the 15-year-old was booked at the San Bernardino County Juvenile Hall.
