Accident – Death – Obituary News : BEL AIR, Md. (TCD) — A shocking incident in Bel Air, Maryland has left the community in disbelief. A 37-year-old woman from North Carolina has been arrested after surveillance video allegedly showed her brutally slamming her young son to the ground multiple times. The incident occurred on Sunday, Dec. 3, at 5:25 a.m. when an off-duty deputy from the Harford County Sheriff’s Office witnessed a woman standing in the street, holding a lifeless infant child. The deputy immediately contacted the Bel Air Police, who quickly arrived at the scene.
The child, identified as 3-year-old Jason Garcia, was immediately given lifesaving measures by the police. He was then rushed to the University of Maryland Upper Chesapeake Medical Center, but tragically, he was pronounced dead at approximately 6 a.m.
The Bel Air Police, after conducting a thorough investigation, arrested the child’s mother, Gloria Hughes. She has been charged with first-degree murder and child abuse resulting in death. The police stated that significant evidence, including video evidence, led them to Hughes as the perpetrator.
According to WUSA-TV, Garcia’s father had called the Morgantown, North Carolina Police on Dec. 2, reporting that his son and Hughes were traveling to Maryland amidst a custody dispute. Later that day, Hughes and Garcia went to Upper Chesapeake Medical Center after Garcia ingested a type of acid. They were discharged early Sunday morning, around 12:15 a.m.
Subsequent surveillance footage reportedly captured Hughes slamming her son on the sidewalk. Garcia remained immobile for over an hour before receiving medical attention. Doctors at the hospital discovered that Garcia had suffered a skull fracture and sustained a large rash on his face.
