Accident – Death – Obituary News : PIERRE, S.D. – South Dakota Attorney General Marty Jackley, Hughes County State’s Attorney Casey Deibert, and the Pierre Police Department have jointly announced the charging of David J. Shangreaux, Jr., a 23-year-old resident of Pierre, with Second Degree Murder. This charge follows the tragic stabbing death of a 17-year-old female, Evie Maxey, on Thursday, November 30, 2023, at a residence in Pierre.
The incident unfolded when the Pierre police responded to a disturbance call at 9:04 p.m. on Thursday. The call led them to an apartment located at 325 S. Brule Street, where they discovered the lifeless body of the victim. The deceased, identified as Evie Maxey from Rapid City, was pronounced dead at the scene.
David J. Shangreaux, Jr. is currently being held in the Hughes County Jail pending further legal proceedings. His initial court appearance is scheduled for 1:15 p.m., CST on Thursday, December 7, 2023. It is important to note that under the U.S. Constitution, he is presumed innocent until proven guilty.
