ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – There is a significant development regarding a high-speed police pursuit that took place in Albuquerque earlier this month.

Initially, the police believed they had apprehended the driver responsible for the chase; however, it has now emerged that the individual in custody had allegedly switched places with another suspect, as stated in a new criminal complaint.

Two weeks ago, KOB 4 aired a video captured by the Albuquerque Police Department’s helicopter, showcasing the moment when the arrest of the presumed driver was announced.

During the pursuit, which lasted nearly half an hour, law enforcement officers followed an orange Dodge Challenger that was speeding through town at over 100 mph before eventually running out of fuel.

While the police initially believed they had apprehended a drag racer, it appears that they had actually captured a potential accomplice.

The details of the incident on November 3 are outlined extensively in a criminal complaint filed by an Albuquerque Police Department officer.

At approximately 10 p.m., the officer reported observing the orange Dodge Challenger, along with several other vehicles, on San Mateo Boulevard. The officer also noted that the Challenger had been previously seen driving recklessly but had always managed to evade the authorities.

Another officer attempted to initiate a traffic stop of the Challenger; however, the driver accelerated, reaching speeds of 109 mph in a 40 mph zone.

According to the officer, the driver was weaving through traffic in a dangerous manner, proceeded through a red light, and then entered southbound I-25.

On the highway, the Challenger continued to travel at 101 mph in a 65 mph zone. Upon exiting the highway, the driver ran at least three more red lights and even drove on the wrong side of the road for four blocks.

At around 10:34 p.m., the driver arrived at the arrivals terminal of the Albuquerque International Sunport, where a red Nissan SUV was waiting.

Subsequent investigation revealed that the driver of the Challenger was a 17-year-old male, while the passenger was identified as the car’s owner, Bailey George. Both individuals exited the Challenger and got into the red Nissan.

Jacobi Carrillo, who claims to have been a passenger in the Nissan, was the person apprehended by the officers on 51st Street, as they believed he had been in the Challenger throughout the pursuit.

In body camera footage from that night, Carrillo can be heard denying his involvement. He then informs the officers that he was in the Nissan when George and the 17-year-old called, stating that they were being chased by the police and needed to switch drivers.

Officers assert that security footage from the airport confirms the driver switch.

While Carrillo is being arrested, George informs the officers that her car, the Dodge Challenger, had been stolen.

Arrest warrants have been issued for both the 17-year-old and Bailey George, charging them not only with reckless driving but also with filing a false report, conspiracy, tampering, and other offenses.
