Police – Accident – Death – Obituary News : A chilling crime took place on a King County Metro Transit bus in SeaTac on Oct. 30, 2023, resulting in the tragic death of Willy M. Mbugua, a 24-year-old who was fatally stabbed. The suspect, identified as 27-year-old Jimmy Lee Gorman, was apprehended four days later in connection with the incident and is now facing second-degree murder charges.
According to charging documents from the King County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office, the horrifying sequence of events unfolded when Gorman pulled out a knife and threatened Mbugua, who was seated across from him on the Metro bus. Disturbing video footage captured the assailant menacingly thrusting the knife towards Mbugua’s neck and holding it against him.

After the attack, the assailant and a female companion exited the bus, leaving a wounded Mbugua behind. Despite sustaining a single penetrating stab wound to his chest, Mbugua remained on the bus until the next stop. Less than 10 minutes later, he managed to make a distressing 911 call, reporting his own stabbing and critical condition. Tragically, during the call, Mbugua audibly groaned and eventually became unresponsive. Patrol officers later discovered him on the side of the road, succumbing to his fatal chest wound.
Gorman managed to evade authorities initially but was eventually apprehended four days later. In a subsequent police interview, he confessed to brandishing the knife, threatening Mbugua, and ultimately stabbing him on the bus. The female companion’s account of events leading up to the stabbing contradicted the evidence, particularly the bus video footage.
Further investigation revealed that Gorman had also been under scrutiny for other stabbing incidents near public transit facilities in King County, including those at light rail stations in Seattle. Additional evidence linked Gorman to a stabbing that occurred six days prior to Mbugua’s tragic death.
Law enforcement authorities argue that Gorman poses a significant danger to the community and is likely to commit violent offenses if released. Concerns have also been raised about Gorman’s lack of ties to the local jurisdiction, which could potentially lead to him fleeing.

As previously reported, Mbugua’s 911 call played a crucial role in the investigation, providing vital information. However, the difficulty he initially faced in describing his location complicated response efforts. The subsequent investigation, which included autopsy results, analysis of the bus video footage, and coordination with other law enforcement agencies, eventually led to the identification and arrest of Gorman and his female companion, Tammy Crawford.
During the police interview, Gorman revealed that fear was the motive behind the stabbing, stemming from a previous encounter with Mbugua. A search of the motel room where Gorman and Crawford were staying uncovered clothing matching those seen in the bus video, as well as several knives, including the one used in the fatal attack.
The suspect’s connection to prior stabbing incidents, as highlighted in a bulletin from the Seattle Police Department, adds another layer to this case. While Gorman’s arrest based on probable cause for murder provides some closure to the series of violent incidents, the investigation continues to unfold.
