The Ontario Provincial Police Investigate Homicide in Ramara

The Orillia Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) is currently conducting an investigation into a tragic homicide that occurred in the town of Ramara.

According to reports, officers received a distress call at approximately 1:00 p.m. on November 11, 2023, alerting them to a possible crime at a residence situated on County Road 169. Rushing to the scene, the authorities discovered the lifeless body of Fabian Crawford, a 48-year-old resident of Ramara.

Swift action by the responding officers led to the apprehension of the suspect, Christopher Scully, 54, from Orillia. Scully has been subsequently charged with Second Degree Murder and was held for a bail hearing on November 12, 2023, at the Ontario Court of Justice in Newmarket.

The Orillia Detachment, in collaboration with the Central Region Emergency Response Team (ERT) and the OPP Canine Unit, swiftly initiated an extensive investigation. Additional support is being provided by the Orillia Detachment Crime Unit and OPP Forensic Identification Services (FIS), under the guidance of the OPP Criminal Investigation Branch (CIB), in conjunction with the Office of the Chief Coroner and Ontario Forensic Pathology Service.

As the investigation is still in its preliminary stages, limited information can be disclosed at this time. However, residents in the vicinity of the crime scene can expect a heightened police presence in the area. It is essential to note that there is currently no perceived threat to public safety.
