We are deeply saddened to report the passing of the last known D-Day Veteran of the legendary 7 Para, Ernie Stringer, in New Zealand. Ernie, whose friendly demeanor won the hearts of everyone he met, was a regular visitor to Normandy each year, paying homage to his fallen comrades.
Born on January 12, 1923, in Birmingham, England, Ernie Stringer joined the British Army at the age of 18. He became a member of the renowned 7th Parachute Battalion, famously known as 7 Para. Ernie participated in the historic D-Day invasion on June 6, 1944, when Allied forces stormed the beaches of Normandy. As a paratrooper, he faced tremendous danger and displayed unwavering bravery throughout the operation.
