A 38-year-old man from Palm Springs, Florida, named Hipolito Jesus Fraguela, has been given two life sentences without the possibility of parole for the shooting deaths of a man and a woman near West Palm Beach in 2018. This sentencing was handed down by Circuit Judge Sarah Willis, who also imposed a mandatory minimum of 25 years to be served concurrently. Fraguela was found guilty by a jury on July 6 of two counts of first-degree murder with a firearm and one count of attempted second-degree murder with a firearm.

The victims, Crystal Rivera, 20, and Justin Moyer, 33, were fatally shot while sitting inside a car at the intersection of Belvedere Road and Drexel Road at around 3:18 a.m. on June 4, 2018. The mother of both victims, Valli Moyer, expressed her devastation, saying, “I feel like I lost everything.” She also shared during the sentencing that every day feels like June 4, 2018, for her and that Fraguela should have been stopped long before committing this senseless and ignorant act.

Justin Moyer, who was a graduate of Palm Beach Lakes High School and a father to a 6-year-old son, had been pursuing a career in music. During the trial, the mothers of Moyer and Rivera sat together in the courtroom.

The bodies of Rivera and Moyer were discovered inside a black Chevrolet Malibu parked outside the Fast Stop In Go convenience store, located just west of Palm Beach International Airport. Three other individuals were found standing outside the vehicle, including Bailey Post, who sustained gunshot wounds and was taken to the hospital.

According to prosecutors, Fraguela and Moyer were involved in drug deals, and Fraguela killed Moyer in retaliation for $1,700 worth of stolen marijuana. On the night of the shooting, Moyer was at Spearmint Rhino Gentleman’s Club with friends before getting into the car with four others. One of the car’s occupants stated that Fraguela, driving a white SUV, pulled up beside them, pointed a gun at Moyer, and said, “This is for you.”

Fraguela had previous convictions, including aggravated child abuse in 2011, and was a two-time convicted felon.

In conclusion, Hipolito Jesus Fraguela has been sentenced to two life sentences without parole, along with a concurrent 25-year minimum, for the shooting deaths of Crystal Rivera and Justin Moyer. The victims’ families expressed their grief and loss during the sentencing, and Fraguela’s involvement in drug deals was cited as the motive for the killings. Fraguela has a history of criminal convictions, including aggravated child abuse..
