The identity of the Philadelphia Police officer responsible for the fatal shooting of a 27-year-old man, who was seated in a vehicle, has been revealed by the Inquirer. Pending the results of the Internal Affairs and Officer Involved shooting Investigations, the officer has been placed on restricted duty. The incident occurred on Willard Street on Monday afternoon when the victim, Irizarry, was shot and killed while sitting in a Toyota Corolla. Initially, authorities claimed that Irizarry had lunged at the officers with a knife while outside the vehicle, but later reports confirmed that he was indeed seated in the Toyota at the time of the fatal shooting. The event unfolded at approximately 12:28 p.m. when officers attempted to stop a Toyota Corolla on B Street near Westmoreland due to its erratic driving. The vehicle changed its course onto Westmoreland, then onto Lee Street, and finally onto Willard Street against the flow of traffic. Eventually, the vehicle parked in the middle of the block, prompting the two officers in a marked patrol vehicle to exit and approach the Corolla. One officer approached the driver’s side while the other approached the passenger’s side, with the latter attempting to open the passenger door. It was during this interaction that the officer on the passenger side alerted his colleague to the presence of a weapon, which led to the officer shooting multiple times into the vehicle, resulting in Irizarry’s tragic demise. Irizarry was swiftly transported to Temple Hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 12:48 p.m. The subsequent search of the Corolla revealed the discovery of two knives. Notably, both officers had activated their body cameras during the incident, according to the police department..
