“Man Charged with First Degree Murder in Jeremy Motley’s Death”

Roanoke Rapids Police Department arrested a man for a July homicide. Oquevion Raheim Barnes, 20, has been charged with the death of Jeremy Lemuel Motley. Barnes, who has a history of criminal charges, including possession with intent to sell marijuana, is now facing a first-degree murder charge. His court appearance is scheduled for August 18. A man has been arrested and charged by the Roanoke Rapids Police Department in connection with a homicide that occurred in July. Detective S. Bryant has formally charged Oquevion Raheim Barnes, aged 20, with the death of Jeremy Lemuel Motley. The incident took place on July 3, when authorities responded to reports of a homicide near the intersection of 2nd Street and Jackson Street in Roanoke Rapids, close to the Food Lion supermarket, at approximately 9:00 p.m. Upon arrival, officers discovered the lifeless body of Motley, aged 26, lying on the roadway at the intersection of 2nd Street and Madison Street. Motley had sustained a fatal gunshot wound. Following investigations, Barnes has been identified as the primary suspect and has been formally charged with First Degree Murder. He is currently being held without bond and is due to make his first appearance in court on August 18 in Halifax County. It is worth noting that Barnes also faces additional charges, including Resisting Arrest in December 2022 and Possession with Intent to Sell and Deliver Marijuana in July 2022. Furthermore, Barnes has a previous conviction for Discharging a Firearm into an Occupied Dwelling in February 2021 and Simple Assault in October 2021..
