A suspect has been formally charged with first-degree murder in relation to the death of a rideshare driver in Seattle’s SoDo neighborhood. The King County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office announced this development on Tuesday, August 16th. Neiana Allen-Bailey, an 18-year-old, was arrested by Seattle police for her alleged involvement in a fatal carjacking of a rideshare driver in the SoDo District on Tuesday, August 9th. The arrest took place on Thursday, August 11th, near John Street and 8th Avenue North. Authorities previously stated that the shooting appeared to be a random carjacking, and the suspect was not a rideshare customer.

According to the police, the incident occurred at approximately 3:30 a.m. when the suspect approached the victim, who was sitting in his car parked along the curb of 1st Avenue South. The victim, identified as 52-year-old Amare W. Geda, was working as a rideshare driver. Court documents reveal that Allen-Bailey allegedly carjacked and shot the victim before fleeing the scene with his light blue 2014 Toyota Prius, which was later recovered. A passerby called 911 after witnessing the injured man on the ground. When officers arrived, they found the victim suffering from a gunshot wound. Sadly, he was pronounced dead at the scene.

During the investigation, detectives discovered that Allen-Bailey had visited her mother and brother in Skyway, purchased marijuana in Rainier Beach, and then traveled to Kent to have her hair done after stealing the victim’s car. A subsequent search of the stolen vehicle led to the discovery of a 9mm semi-automatic pistol.

The family of the victim intends to lay him to rest in Ethiopia and has initiated a GoFundMe campaign to assist with transportation expenses and support his wife and children.

This tragic incident marks the second homicide to occur within the same three-block radius in SoDo within a span of twelve hours. The Seattle police have identified it as the city’s 44th homicide of the year.

The suspect is currently in custody, with bail set at £2 million, and will remain there until her trial. Her next court appearance is scheduled for August 28th..
