According to a statement from the Hardin County Sheriff’s Office, the victim has been identified as 17-year-old Jayden Elwood from Ada. The incident occurred on state Route 235, just north of Alger, near Hardin County Road 80.

Preliminary information suggests that a 911 call was made to Hardin County Central Dispatch at 5:07 a.m. reporting a potential collision between a cyclist and a tractor-trailer traveling north on state Route 235. Deputies found the bicycle and rider on the east side of the road, and unfortunately, Elwood was pronounced dead at the scene.

The tractor-trailer involved in the incident continued driving but was later stopped south of the Kenton city limits. Upon inspection, the semi-tractor exhibited damage consistent with the crash. The driver, 51-year-old Thomas Karl from Harrod, admitted to authorities that he had been driving along the same route and believed he had hit an animal. After inspecting for damage and signs of impact, and finding none, he proceeded on his way, as stated in the initial press release.

The investigation into the collision is ongoing, and the Hardin County Sheriff’s Office is urging anyone with information to contact them at 419-673-1268, Option 0.
