Two teenagers tragically lost their lives in a car accident near Winnie, Texas on Saturday night, with another teenager sustaining serious injuries, as reported by Chambers County Sheriff Brian Hawthorne. The incident unfolded when multiple 911 calls alerted authorities to a reckless vehicle speeding on SH 124, passing through High Island and continuing westbound on FM 1985 at around 8:30 p.m. Hawthorne stated that the vehicle was traveling at a minimum speed of 100 mph, exceeding the posted speed limit by approximately 20 mph.

While law enforcement personnel were dispatched to locate the dangerous vehicle, it collided with a large tractor hauling farming equipment near the East Bay Bayou. Upon arrival at the crash site, first responders discovered the vehicle engulfed in flames. Tragically, two passengers succumbed to their injuries, while the driver managed to escape the wreckage. The surviving teenager was airlifted to a Houston hospital for treatment of severe injuries. The tractor driver was transported to a Beaumont hospital with injuries that were not life-threatening.

On Sunday evening, a memorial service took place at Anahuac High School football field to honor the lives lost in the accident.
