The shooting took place on West Street near Grand River Avenue shortly after midnight, prompting the assistance of state police and Livingston County sheriff’s deputies in processing the crime scene.

Later in the day, Howell police seized a vehicle belonging to the victim, identified by his family as 20-year-old Wede Okagbare. It was revealed that Okagbare was visiting his girlfriend when her ex-boyfriend, who is also the father of her child, allegedly shot him. The victim’s father, Robert Okagbare, expressed his bewilderment about how his son ended up in Howell, Michigan, considering he was attending Michigan State University.

Described as a diligent young man, Wede Okagbare had been working various jobs through DoorDash and had even secured an internship at Rocket Mortgage. “I called them to inform them that my son had passed away and wouldn’t be able to come to work today,” Robert Okagbare sorrowfully shared.
