Tragic Incident: Pedestrian Fatally Struck by Box Truck on San Martin Highway
SAN MARTIN, CA (August 13, 2023) – A man lost his life on Wednesday afternoon, August 9, after being hit by a box truck on Highway 101 in San Martin, California.
The fatal collision occurred around 12:31 p.m., just south of San Martin Avenue. According to the California Highway Patrol (CHP), the victim had pulled over his vehicle on the right shoulder and was securing his cargo.
Tragically, moments later, a 2017 International two-axle box truck driver made an unsafe turning maneuver, veering onto the shoulder and striking the man.
Emergency medical services rushed the injured pedestrian to San Jose Regional Medical Center, but unfortunately, he succumbed to his injuries. The Santa Clara County Medical Examiner-Coroner’s Office has yet to release the victim’s identity, pending notification of next of kin. However, they have confirmed that the victim was a 36-year-old resident of Riverside.
The truck driver, a 53-year-old man from Oakland, emerged from the incident unharmed.
The CHP has stated that neither alcohol nor drugs played a role in the collision, which remains under investigation.
