RAWALPINDI: An armed forces member lost his life and four terrorists were neutralized in a gunfight in the Charmang area of Bajaur district, as reported by the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) on Sunday. According to the ISPR, the operation was conducted based on intelligence, targeting the presence of terrorists. The military’s media wing stated that there was an intense exchange of fire between the security forces and the militants during the operation. After successfully subduing the terrorists, one of them was captured alive. The captured terrorist was found in possession of weapons, ammunition, explosives, and a suicide vest. The ISPR added that these militants were actively involved in carrying out various acts of terrorism, including suicide bombings that targeted security forces and resulted in the loss of innocent lives. The martyred soldier was identified as Sepoy Muhammad Shoaib, aged 24. The area is currently being cleared to ensure the elimination of any remaining terrorists. The ISPR emphasized that the security forces of Pakistan are committed to eradicating the menace of terrorism from the country. Pakistan has experienced a significant increase in terrorist activities, particularly suicide bombings and armed attacks targeting the police and law enforcement agencies in the northwestern provinces. These attacks have resulted in numerous casualties and extensive damage. The latest act of terrorism in the region was a devastating suicide blast at the Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam Fazl (JUI-F) convention in Bajaur, which claimed the lives of over 60 individuals, including children. The resurgence of militancy has been attributed to the return of Taliban rule in neighboring Afghanistan and the end of the ceasefire between Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) and Islamabad. Meanwhile, cross-border militancy continues despite Pakistan’s repeated reminders to Afghanistan to fulfill its commitment of preventing the use of its soil for terrorist activities against Pakistan.

Despite multiple reminders from Islamabad, cross-border militancy persistently persists, with Pakistan urging Afghanistan to fulfill its promise of not allowing its territory to be used for terrorism against Pakistan.
