RAWALPINDI: A soldier lost his life, and four terrorists were killed, while another one was apprehended following a shootout in Charmang, Bajaur district, as reported by the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) on Sunday.

In a statement released by the ISPR, it was revealed that the security forces carried out an intelligence-based operation (IBO) in Charmang after receiving information about the presence of terrorists in the area.

“During the operation, a fierce exchange of gunfire occurred between the security forces and the terrorists,” stated the military’s media wing.

After overpowering the militants, one of the terrorists was successfully captured alive during the operation.

The recovered weapons, ammunition, and explosives, including a suicide vest, indicate the active involvement of these terrorists in various acts of terrorism against security forces and the killing of innocent civilians, particularly through suicide bombings.

The ISPR identified the martyred soldier as Sepoy Muhammad Shoaib, aged 24.

The area is currently being sanitized to ensure the elimination of any remaining terrorists.

“The security forces of Pakistan remain steadfast in their determination to eradicate the menace of terrorism from the country,” the ISPR added.

Pakistan has witnessed a significant surge in terrorist activities, including numerous suicide bombings and armed attacks primarily targeting the police and law enforcement agencies in the northwestern provinces. These incidents have resulted in the loss of hundreds of lives and extensive damage to properties.

The most recent act of terrorism was the tragic suicide blast at the Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam Fazl (JUI-F) convention in Bajaur, which claimed the lives of over 60 individuals, including children.

The resurgence of militancy has been observed, especially following the return of Taliban rule in neighboring Afghanistan and the breakdown of the ceasefire between Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) and Islamabad.

Meanwhile, cross-border militancy persists despite multiple reminders from Islamabad to Afghanistan, urging them to fulfill their commitment of not allowing their territory to be used for terrorism against Pakistan.
