One person has died after shots were fired into a home in Hickory, North Carolina. Police responded to the call and found a possible male suspect with a gun in the area. The suspect fled and pulled out a handgun, prompting officers to shoot him. The officers involved are on administrative leave pending an investigation. The Hickory Police Department is also investigating the shooting into the occupied home. Logan Jennes reported

HICKORY, N.C. (QUEEN CITY NEWS) — According to the local police department, a tragic incident occurred in Hickory, resulting in the death of an individual after shots were fired into a residential property. The incident took place in the early hours of Sunday morning, prompting a swift response from law enforcement.

The authorities were alerted to the situation when a resident reported gunshots being fired into their home while they were inside. As the police were en route to the scene, they received another call regarding a potential male suspect in possession of a firearm in the vicinity.

Upon arrival, the officers located the suspect, later identified as Timothy Craig Setzer Jr., aged 27. However, as the officers approached and instructed him to stop, Setzer Jr. fled the scene. After a pursuit, Setzer Jr. turned and brandished a handgun from his waistband, causing the officers to react and discharge their weapons. Tragically, Setzer Jr. was declared deceased at the scene by EMS personnel.

In accordance with standard protocol, the officers involved in the shooting have been placed on administrative leave while the State Bureau of Investigation conducts an inquiry into the incident. Additionally, the Hickory Police Department is conducting its own investigation into the shooting at the occupied residence.
