RAWALPINDI: The Inter-services Public Relations (ISPR) announced on Sunday that four terrorists were neutralised and another was apprehended by security forces during a firefight with militants in the general area of Charmang in Bajaur district. The military’s media wing released a statement stating that the operation was intelligence-based and conducted due to reports of the presence of terrorists in Charmang.

The statement further revealed, “An intense exchange of gunfire took place between the security forces and the terrorists during the operation.” Sadly, Sepoy Muhammad Shoaib, aged 24, lost his life in the encounter.

After subduing the militants, the security forces successfully apprehended one of them who survived the operation. The terrorists were found to possess weapons, ammunition, explosives, and even a suicide vest. They were actively involved in various terrorist activities, including suicide bombings that targeted security forces and resulted in the deaths of innocent civilians.

The ISPR emphasized that the area is currently being sanitized to ensure the complete elimination of any remaining terrorists. “The security forces of Pakistan are resolutely committed to eradicating the menace of terrorism within the country,” the ISPR added.

Pakistan has experienced a significant surge in terrorist activities, particularly in the northwestern provinces, where suicide bombings and gun attacks have targeted law enforcement agencies and police, leading to a high number of casualties and property damage.

The recent tragic incident in Bajaur was a deadly suicide blast during the Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam Fazl (JUI-F) convention, claiming the lives of over 60 individuals, including children.

The resurgence of militancy has been observed since the Taliban regained control in neighbouring Afghanistan, and the ceasefire between Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) and Islamabad came to an end.

Despite multiple reminders from Islamabad, cross-border militancy continues, with Afghanistan failing to fulfill its commitment of preventing its territory from being used for terrorism against Pakistan.
