A fatal accident on the Major Deegan Expressway in New York is currently under investigation by the police. The authorities are working to establish the sequence of events that led to the tragedy, which began with a single-car crash in the southbound lanes and ended with a pedestrian fatality in the northbound lanes. The incident unfolded after a disabled car was hit twice on the road, resulting in the driver being struck by another vehicle. The southbound section of the Deegan was closed between exits 10 and 11 as investigators examined the scene. It was initially reported that a 22-year-old man named Justin Francisco lost control of his Honda Accord and collided with a wall. He then exited the vehicle to inspect the damage, and it was during this time that a 61-year-old driver in a Subaru, also traveling southbound, hit the Honda, causing it to hit Francisco. Tragically, Francisco was thrown over the center wall of the Deegan into oncoming northbound traffic, where he was struck again by a Jeep driven by a 37-year-old. The impact of the collision ejected the Jeep’s driver. Despite the efforts of emergency medical services, Francisco could not be saved. The Deegan Expressway remained closed for several hours as the New York State Police Collision Reconstruction Unit collected evidence. In addition to the fatality, the driver of the Jeep was taken to the hospital in critical condition, while three others were transported with non-life-threatening injuries..
