Emergency services were called to Point Cook Resort on Point Cook Rd at approximately 2:45pm on Sunday following distressing reports of a stabbing incident. The victim, a 35-year-old man, was discovered with stab wounds. Despite the efforts of paramedics to save his life, he tragically succumbed to his injuries at the scene.
Initial investigations indicate that a confrontation took place between the victim and another individual within the resort. The alleged attacker, who is believed to have had a prior connection to the victim, reportedly fled the scene in a vehicle and subsequently crashed into another vehicle on Point Cook Rd.
Police quickly arrived at the crash site and apprehended a 28-year-old man from Diggers Rest. The individual, who was wearing jeans stained with blood, was detained for questioning as numerous residents watched the dramatic scene unfold, with officers pinning him down during the arrest.
Later in the evening, the Homicide Squad, accompanied by volunteers from the State Emergency Service (SES), meticulously searched the surrounding bushes near the resort premises in an effort to locate the weapon used in the fatal attack.
The investigation is still ongoing as detectives from the Homicide Squad continue to focus on unraveling the sequence of events that led to the fatal altercation.
