In a tragic incident near the Lakshmi Narasimha Swamy temple at the Alipiri-Tirumala footpath, a six-year-old girl named Sushmita, also known as Rakshita, was fatally attacked by a leopard. The young girl had gone missing on Friday night and her lifeless body was discovered in the early hours of Saturday. Accompanied by her parents, Dinesh Kumar and Sasikala, who hail from Pothireddypalem of Kovuru in Nellore district, Sushmita had embarked on a journey by foot to visit Lord Venkateswara in Tirumala.

Around 7 p.m., Sushmita was reported missing, prompting her concerned parents to initiate a search. Unable to locate their daughter, they lodged a complaint with the authorities upon reaching Tirumala. In hopes of finding the girl and reuniting her with her parents, an announcement was made through the public address system. However, due to the darkness of the night, a search operation was not feasible. As dawn broke on Saturday, TTD vigilance and police officials conducted a search, discovering blood stains on the ground at the 7th mile on the footpath to Tirumala. Tragically, they eventually found the girl’s partially consumed body. The body was then transferred to SVR Ruia Government General Hospital for postmortem examination. Upon receiving the distressing news, the girl’s parents rushed to the hospital, overwhelmed with grief.

It is disheartening to note that this incident occurred just a month after a five-year-old boy was also attacked by a leopard at the Tirumala temple..
