A fatal crash in Vietnam’s Gia Lai Province resulted in the death of three members of Hoang Anh Gia Lai Football Club. The car they were in was sandwiched between two trucks, while the driver sustained severe injuries. The accident occurred as the team was returning from a football match. In Gia Lai Province, which is located in Vietnam’s Central Highlands region, a tragic accident occurred on Saturday afternoon. A car belonging to the Hoang Anh Gia Lai Football Club was involved in a fatal crash, resulting in the death of three club members and severe injuries to the car driver. The local transport official confirmed this devastating incident.
The individuals who lost their lives in the accident have been identified as Paollo Madeira Oliveira, a Brazilian forward, Duong Minh Ninh, an assistant coach, and Dao Trong Tri, a healthcare specialist. The injured car driver was immediately taken to a nearby hospital for urgent medical attention.
The collision took place at 2:20 pm on a section of the Ho Chi Minh Highway that passes through Ia Hru Commune, Chu Puh District. This location is approximately 80km away from Pleiku, the provincial city. Ha Anh Thai, the deputy director of the provincial Transport Department, provided this information.
At the accident site, the football club’s car, which is based in Pleiku, was completely crushed as it became wedged between two larger trucks.
Rescue operations are currently underway, and the police have initiated an investigation to determine the cause of this tragic crash.
The fatal accident occurred as the football club members were returning to Pleiku after a football match they had played on Friday evening. Unfortunately, Hoang Anh Gia Lai had lost 0-1 to Song Lam Nghe An, a team based in Nghe An, a north-central province, during the final round of the V-League 2023.
Tran Quoc Tuan, the president of the Vietnam Football Federation (VFF), stated that VFF leaders and representatives from Vietnam Professional Football JSC (VPF) will visit Gia Lai to provide support and condolences to the grieving families.
This is the most devastating accident that has occurred involving a Vietnamese football club in recent years.
