A photograph titled “Tragic Discovery on Lake Coeur d’Alene” captures the unfortunate incident involving an elderly gentleman from Post Falls, aged 82, whose life was tragically claimed when the sailboat he was aboard washed ashore. The incident prompted a swift response from marine deputies of the Kootenai County Sheriff’s Office, who were alerted to the situation around 5 p.m. on Thursday at the Higgins Point day-use area, situated east of the boat launch. Within a remarkably short span of time, approximately an hour, the diligent deputies located the lifeless body of a man floating face down on the water’s surface. The deceased individual, identified as John M. Ryan, was promptly brought aboard a sheriff’s vessel, although regrettably, there were no signs of life. It is worth noting that Ryan appeared to be the sole occupant of the sailboat, and as such, the investigation into this tragic incident remains ongoing..
