A 23-year-old man is currently facing charges for impaired driving in connection with a fatal collision that occurred on a bridge in Edmonton last June. The accident resulted in the death of a young woman visiting from Toronto. Edmonton police were called to Capilano Bridge at approximately 3 a.m. on June 25, after a 2007 Dodge Ram collided with a 2011 Audi Q5. The Ram was traveling in the wrong direction at a high speed, narrowly avoiding a police patrol vehicle before crashing into the Audi behind it. Tragically, the passenger in the Audi, a 21-year-old woman, was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver, a 31-year-old man, was critically injured and remains in the hospital. The victim has been identified as Jayda by a family spokesperson. The driver of the Ram was also taken to the hospital in critical condition, and a 21-year-old female passenger in the truck sustained serious but non-life-threatening injuries. Edmonton police stated that speed and impairment were contributing factors in the collision. As a result, charges have been laid against the driver of the Ram, identified as Tryton Desjarlais. He is facing charges including impaired operation causing death, impaired operation causing bodily harm, impaired operation over the legal alcohol limit, dangerous driving causing death, dangerous driving causing bodily harm, and driving without authorization.
