Senator Rand Paul (R-Ky.) was present at a Senate hearing on Capitol Hill in Washington on September 14, 2022. Recently, video footage was released showing a disturbing incident in which one of Senator Paul’s staff members was brutally stabbed by a knife-wielding attacker in Washington. The Washington Post obtained the surveillance camera footage, which depicts the horrifying attack on Phillip Todd, a 26-year-old economist who works for Senator Paul. The video shows Todd and his friend walking outside a restaurant when the assailant charges towards them, dragging Todd to the ground and repeatedly stabbing him. Todd’s friend manages to push the attacker away, and they both flee in panic while the suspect casually walks away, leaving his knife behind. Todd sustained life-threatening injuries, including stab wounds to his head, abdomen, and lungs, which required multiple surgeries. His parents later announced that he was out of immediate danger and expected to make a full recovery. The assailant, Glynn Neal, was apprehended by police a day after the attack and charged with assault with intent to kill. Neal had recently been released from federal prison after serving a 12-year sentence for forcing two women into prostitution under threat of violence. Senator Paul expressed his concern about the incident, comparing the safety of Washington, D.C. to that of a Third World country. Neal was deemed unfit to stand trial and will undergo further psychological evaluations before his next court appearance..
