A manhunt has concluded with the capture of a suspect wanted in connection to a shooting incident that occurred on Sunday night in Talbot County, Maryland. The suspect, identified as 36-year-old Stewart Orlando Ray, allegedly shot at a vehicle driven by the victim, 39-year-old Jahari Cooper, multiple times. Cooper sustained injuries, as did his vehicle. Ray then fled the scene and was pursued by law enforcement. After a 24-hour manhunt that covered a vast area, Ray was located in a wooded area in rural Talbot County.
It was discovered that Ray targeted Cooper due to a dispute over a shared girlfriend. An arrest warrant was issued for Ray, charging him with attempted murder, first-degree assault, reckless endangerment, and the use of a firearm in a violent crime. During the search, severe thunderstorms occurred, complicating the operation.
During the early morning hours of August 8th, investigators received information suggesting that Ray had escaped the area and returned to the Washington D.C. metro area. The Alexandria Police Department responded to a reported shooting in the Potomac Yard shopping center, where Ray was located. As police attempted to apprehend him, he was shot and sustained life-threatening injuries. Ray is currently hospitalized and was already on probation for a previous conviction of attempted second-degree murder in 2009.
