A man has been charged with felony assault with a deadly weapon, criminal mischief, and child neglect after allegedly making threats to stab a woman for working late at night.

On August 1, the Broward County Sheriff’s Office received a report of a domestic assault involving a deadly weapon at a residence in Tamarac.

When deputies arrived, they found a visibly upset victim who claimed that Lyns Cearc, a 41-year-old man, had threatened to stab her and slashed her tires to prevent her from escaping.

According to the arrest report, the altercation that led to Cearc’s violent threats began when the victim returned home around 6:00 a.m. after working overnight as a Lyft driver.

The victim stated that Cearc, angry about her late arrival, took her wallet and refused to give it back. When she tried to retrieve her wallet, Cearc allegedly pulled out a silver pocket knife and threatened to stab her if she touched him.

Feeling unsafe, the victim ran outside and locked herself in her car but discovered that her tires had been slashed, rendering the car undrivable.

She called 911 from her car to report the incident. While she was on the phone with law enforcement, Cearc came outside and admitted to damaging the tires, promising to replace them.

Fearing for her life and aware of the knife, the victim chose not to open the car door.

Deputies eventually gained access to the apartment and apprehended Cearc, who initially resisted opening the door.

During questioning, Cearc denied brandishing a knife or damaging the tires. However, a neighbor who witnessed the incident confirmed the victim’s account of Cearc slashing the tires.

Cearc was arrested and taken to Broward County Main Jail, where he is being held without bond. While the arrest report mentions child neglect charges, no further details are provided at this time.
