The Ukrainian air force successfully intercepted and shot down 30 out of 40 cruise missiles and all Shahed drones launched by Russia during a series of attacks. The assault, which included a horrific strike on a blood transfusion centre, has been condemned by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy as a war crime committed by “beasts.” The air force revealed that Russia had launched three Kinzhal hypersonic missiles, but it is unknown if they were among the destroyed weapons. The enemy used a total of 70 air assault weapons in multiple waves of attacks. The fate of the remaining 10 cruise missiles remains unclear.

Tragically, two people were killed and four others injured in intense shelling in the Kharkiv region. Additionally, a woman in her 80s died as a result of Ukrainian shelling in the city of Donetsk. Zelenskiy reported that a blood transfusion centre in Kupiansk was hit by a guided air bomb, resulting in casualties. The precise number of casualties is currently unknown.

Zelenskiy took to Twitter to denounce the attack and branded it a war crime, stating that it exemplifies Russian aggression. He emphasized the importance of defeating terrorists for those who value life. The strike on the blood transfusion centre occurred shortly after Zelenskiy announced that Russian missiles had targeted a factory belonging to Motor Sich, a company producing aircraft and helicopter engines. This factory, like several others, has been requisitioned by the Ukrainian government since the Russian invasion.

The Khmelnytskyi region, home to a significant Ukrainian airbase, has been a frequent target of Russian strikes in recent months. Russia claimed to have struck military airbases in the Khmelnytskyi and Rivne regions, asserting that all targets were hit. Zelenskiy remained defiant in his address, stating that Russian attacks would not deter Ukraine.

Russian missiles damaged several buildings in the Khmelnytskyi region, injuring a worker and causing a fire. This is not the first time the Starokostiantyniv military airfield in Khmelnytskyi has been targeted by Russia. In Moscow, a hostile drone approaching the city was destroyed by air defense forces, according to Mayor Sergey Sobyanin. Temporary restrictions at Moscow’s Vnukovo international airport were lifted after the incident.
