A man has been arrested in connection with a shooting in Myles Standish State Forest that occurred on July 12. John Geovanni Pires Monteiro Macedo, 20, was apprehended by Massachusetts State Police and New Bedford Police. The victim, Robert Aponte-Flores, 25, was found with multiple gunshot wounds and was pronounced dead at the hospital. A man from New Bedford was taken into custody on Saturday for allegedly shooting another man in Myles Standish State Forest on July 12, as announced by Plymouth County District Attorney Timothy Cruz on Sunday.

The suspect, John Geovanni Pires Monteiro Macedo, aged 20, was apprehended by the Massachusetts State Police and New Bedford Police at 3:55 p.m. on Saturday, according to a statement released by the DA’s office.

On July 12, at approximately 2:40 p.m., Plymouth police received several reports regarding a shooting incident that occurred within the state forest, detailed the statement.

Upon their arrival, officers discovered a male victim, later identified as Robert Aponte-Flores, aged 25 and from New Bedford, who had sustained multiple gunshot wounds. The victim was swiftly transported to Beth Israel Deaconess-Plymouth Hospital, where he was sadly pronounced dead.

The release stated that multiple witnesses informed both State Police and Plymouth officers that a confrontation had taken place at the park’s picnic area between the victim and Monteiro Macedo. As a result, the authorities obtained an arrest warrant for the suspect.
