A man has been arrested in connection with a fatal shooting at Myles Standish State Forest. The victim, Robert Aponte-Flores, was shot multiple times during an altercation in the picnic area of the park. The suspect, John Geovanni Pires Monteiro Macedo, was apprehended and will face charges of murder. A man has been taken into custody in connection with a fatal shooting incident that occurred at Myles Standish State Forest. The Plymouth County District Attorney’s office reported that on July 12th, at approximately 2:40 p.m., several 911 calls were made to Plymouth Police regarding a shooting at the state forest in Plymouth.

Upon arrival, officers discovered a male victim who had sustained multiple gunshot wounds. He was quickly transported to Beth Israel Deaconess-Plymouth Hospital, where he tragically succumbed to his injuries. The deceased has been identified as Robert Aponte-Flores, a 25-year-old resident of New Bedford.

Eyewitnesses at the scene recounted that an altercation had taken place between Aponte-Flores and the suspect in a picnic area of the park prior to the shooting.

Subsequently, the Massachusetts State Police initiated a search for the suspect, John Geovanni Pires Monteiro Macedo, aged 20. An arrest warrant was obtained, leading to his apprehension at an apartment in New Bedford.

Monteiro Macedo is scheduled to appear in Plymouth District Court in Plymouth tomorrow, where he will face charges of murder.

Myles Standish State Forest, the largest publicly-owned recreational area in the state, witnessed this tragic incident.
