A fatal collision between a juvenile driver and an 18-wheeler occurred on Friday evening on state Highway 26. The driver crossed the center line into the path of the truck, despite the truck’s attempt to brake. The juvenile was killed, and the driver and passenger of the truck were injured. A young person lost their life on Friday evening after colliding with an 18-wheeler.
According to a summary of the fatal crash, the juvenile was driving a 2020 Chevy towards the west on state Highway 26 when they crossed the center line and entered the path of a 1989 Mack truck. The driver of the Mack attempted to brake to avoid the collision, while the young driver tried to return to their lane but was unsuccessful.
Arkansas State Police have chosen not to disclose the identity of the young person involved in the accident.
The driver of the Mack, Terry McKinnon, aged 56, from Prescott, and his passenger, 62-year-old Kennth McKinnon, sustained injuries in the collision and were taken to Baptist Health Medical Center-Arkadelphia for treatment. The extent of their injuries is currently unknown.
The body of the juvenile was transported to Welch Funeral Home in Arkadelphia.
The collision occurred at 5:20 p.m. on Friday, August 4, 2023, under clear skies and on dry road conditions.
