A tragic incident occurred on a Maryland interstate when a driver going in the wrong direction caused a major collision involving multiple vehicles. The result was one woman losing her life and nine others sustaining injuries. Reports indicate that around 11:45 p.m. on August 1, numerous calls were made to the police regarding a white Mercedes SUV traveling southbound in the northbound lanes of Interstate 270 near Rockville. Eventually, the driver entered the Capital Beltway (I-495) and continued driving in the wrong direction. The driver, identified as Jayleen Hannor, a 23-year-old from Macon, Georgia, crashed into a Lexus and a Nissan SUV near Maryland Route 355. The Nissan Pathfinder was occupied by two adults and three children, all of whom were injured. Tragically, one adult female in the Nissan SUV was pronounced dead at a local hospital. The five adults in the Lexus also sustained injuries and were taken to area hospitals. The condition and identities of the injured individuals have not been disclosed at this time.
