SARASOTA, Fla. – The authorities in Florida have recently confirmed the identity of a woman whose remains were discovered in 2007. Surprisingly, this woman, named Jeana Burrus, was never reported missing. Jeana Burrus’ remains were found buried in a shallow grave within a wooded area known as Ashton Court on February 6, 2007. Despite the passage of time, it wasn’t until November 2022 that progress was made in solving this cold case. The sheriff’s office collaborated with DNA Labs International Inc. to employ cutting-edge DNA testing and genetic genealogy techniques, leading to the positive identification of Jeana Burrus.

Based on the investigation, it has been determined that Jeana Burrus was 39 years old at the time of her death. She resided on Pauline Avenue in Sarasota with her husband, James Burrus, and their son, James Burrus Jr. Recently, the Sarasota County Sheriff’s Office named James Burrus as a person of interest in this case.

According to officials, Jeana Burrus was unemployed while her husband worked at a local body shop. Meanwhile, their son was enrolled at Gulf Gate Elementary School during the 2005 and 2006 academic year. Interestingly, Jeana Burrus was never reported missing by her family, and her absence went unquestioned, thereby complicating the investigation into her death.
