Upon receiving the report, officers from Mueang Chachoengsao Police Station and a rescue team swiftly arrived at the scene at approximately 3 am on August 4. They found a train loaded with containers positioned on the railway tracks, while about 50 meters away, a severely damaged bronze Isuzu pickup lay in ruins.
According to the police report, the victims were identified as five men and three women who were found lifeless near the railway. The three injured individuals were promptly transported to the hospital, with one of them in critical condition, suffering from a broken left arm and right leg. The other two sustained relatively less severe injuries, including wounds and bruises.
Remarkably, the driver of the pickup truck, 55-year-old Wichai Yulek, escaped the accident unscathed and remained at the scene to provide his account of the incident. Wichai stated that he and 11 colleagues were traveling from Bua Roi Temple in the Latkrabang district of Bangkok to a fish farm in the Klong Udom district of Chachoengsao province.
As they approached the railway, Wichai noticed the approaching train and came to a halt. However, one of his passengers urged him to continue, assuring him that they would be able to cross the railway in time. Tragically, they underestimated the train’s speed, and it collided with the rear of the pickup where most of the passengers were seated.

In a different account reported by Channel 8, it was suggested that the driver might not have seen the oncoming train due to poor visibility caused by the dark accident spot and the elevated position of the railway, creating a blind spot for motorists. Disturbingly, pictures shared by news agencies revealed the absence of a barrier gate or warning light at the location to notify motorists about the approaching train.
Suraphat Prasop, a 20-year-old passenger who sustained injuries, vividly recalled the terrifying moment. Many of his colleagues were asleep when the incident occurred, but he quickly realized that the train would crash into their pickup. Displaying immense bravery, Suraphat made the decision to jump out of the vehicle to save his life. He urged his colleagues to do the same, and in those harrowing moments, he heard the train whistle three times before the crash.
The fish farm they were heading to was merely 5 kilometers away from the accident scene. The rescue team promptly transferred the bodies of the eight deceased individuals to the Chachoengsao Charity Cemetery for autopsy. Additionally, relevant departments have established a center to assist the relatives of the deceased in retrieving the bodies for the funeral ceremony.
