A multi-vehicle crash on I-65 northbound in Lake County, Indiana left one man injured with arm lacerations. The crash occurred when a Chevrolet Impala rear-ended a Ford EcoSport, causing a chain reaction that involved a BMW and a Ford F-150 pickup truck. The injured driver was assisted by two bystanders who applied a tourniquet until help arrived. The injured driver was transported to a nearby hospital for treatment. In Lake County, Indiana, a crash involving four vehicles occurred on Thursday afternoon, resulting in one man sustaining arm lacerations. Indiana State Police from the Lowell Post were called to the scene around 2 p.m. after receiving reports of a multi-vehicle collision on the northbound lanes of I-65 at the 251-mile marker. According to the initial investigation conducted by the ISP, the incident started when a black 2019 Chevrolet Impala, driven by Austin Slivka, 25, of Lake Village, rear-ended a silver 2018 Ford EcoSport. This caused the EcoSport driver to collide with a black 2014 BMW, which then crashed into a red 2014 Ford F-150 pickup truck.
As a result of the crash, all northbound lanes had to be closed for an hour to allow for a thorough investigation. Slivka, who was partially ejected from his vehicle, suffered significant lacerations to his left arm. Fortunately, Charles Hilltunen, an Indianapolis resident, stopped to assist Slivka by applying a tourniquet to his injured arm. Another Good Samaritan from St. Augustine, Florida also offered assistance. When they realized that the initial tourniquet was not effective in stopping the bleeding, they improvised by creating a new tourniquet using a shoelace and screwdriver. Their quick intervention successfully slowed the bleeding until the arrival of the ISP troopers.
Slivka was subsequently transported to Franciscan Health in Crown Point for medical treatment, while the other drivers involved in the crash were unharmed. It is worth noting that no further injuries were reported..
