SARASOTA, Fla. (WWSB/Gray News) – The authorities in Florida have recently confirmed the identity of a deceased woman whose remains were discovered in 2007. Surprisingly, the woman had never been reported missing. The Sarasota County Sheriff’s Office is now appealing to the public for any information regarding the victim, later identified as Jeana Burrus. The remains of Jeana Burrus were found buried in a shallow grave within a wooded area known as Ashton Court on February 6, 2007.

For over a decade, the circumstances surrounding Jeana Burrus’ death remained unresolved. However, in November 2022, the sheriff’s office collaborated with DNA Labs International Inc. to leverage the latest advancements in DNA testing and genetic genealogy. These efforts ultimately led to the positive identification of Jeana Burrus.

Authorities have determined that Jeana Burrus was 39 years old at the time of her demise. She resided on Pauline Avenue in Sarasota with her husband, James Burrus, and their son, James Burrus Jr. Disturbingly, James Burrus has recently been named a person of interest in the investigation, as reported by WWSB on Thursday.

According to official records, Jeana Burrus was unemployed while her husband worked at a local body shop. During the 2005 and 2006 academic year, their son attended Gulf Gate Elementary School.
