Boise police have revealed the names of the officers involved in a fatal shootout with an armed man in Boise’s North End. The officers, including Sgts. Jason Pietrzak and Kirk Rush, were engaged in gunfire with 28-year-old Macey Juker, who was later killed. The officers have been placed on administrative leave while an investigation takes place. This marks the fourth fatal shooting by Boise police this year. Sgt. Rush has been involved in three shootings since last year. Gabe Barnard reported

Boise police have officially identified the officers who were involved in a fatal exchange of gunfire with an armed individual in the North End of Boise. The six officers, namely Sgts. Jason Pietrzak and Kirk Rush, as well as Officers Ryan Pollard, Chase Fiddler, Dominic Rogers, and Craig Sousa, were named in a press release by the police department on Friday. The incident occurred at the intersection of 19th and Washington streets, resulting in the death of 28-year-old Macey Juker, as confirmed by the Ada County coroner.

The authorities were alerted to the sound of gunshots at 10:24 p.m. on July 26, and subsequently called for backup at 10:43 p.m. After arriving at the scene, the officers were immediately met with gunfire, prompting them to return fire. Tragically, the suspect, later identified as Juker, was fatally shot and killed by the officers.

As per standard protocol for police shootings in Idaho, the involved officers have been placed on administrative leave while a thorough investigation is carried out by the Critical Incident Task Force. The Garden City Police Department has been assigned the lead role in this investigation.

It is worth noting that Boise police have experienced an unusually high number of fatal shootings this year, surpassing the department’s historical average.

In an effort to maintain transparency, the police department released the last names and first initials of the officers involved, with the first names of each officer subsequently identified by the Statesman newspaper through a sworn officers list.

Of particular note is Sgt. Kirk Rush, who has now been involved in three separate shootings since last year. In June 2022, Rush was one of seven officers involved in the shooting of 39-year-old Jake Cottrell, who had been suspected of carrying out two shootings in Boise and Meridian. Cottrell was fatally shot by officers on Broadway Ave after allegedly stealing a car.

In a separate incident in January, Rush shot and killed 48-year-old Harry Andrews near the Flying Wye area. Andrews had been walking in traffic lanes on the Interstate 184 connector and failed to comply with commands while brandishing a weapon, according to the police.

Furthermore, Rush has also filed a tort claim alleging that former Boise Police Chief Ryan Lee caused him to sustain a neck injury during a morning briefing in October 2021. A tort claim serves as a formal notice to a government agency of potential legal action.
