The Summit County Sheriff’s Office Inspector, William Holland, revealed that a search warrant was executed for a person of interest in New Philadelphia on Friday morning. “We obtained sufficient information to carry out a search warrant today,” Holland stated. “We are seeking two individuals: the driver and the shooter or passenger.”
The shooting took place at approximately 6:15 p.m. on Thursday near mile-marker 117. Investigators determined that the passenger of a pickup truck fired multiple shots from a handgun into a black Lincoln SUV while both vehicles were traveling southbound on I-77. Banks, the driver of the Lincoln SUV, was struck multiple times, causing the vehicle to veer across the median, enter the northbound lanes, and collide with a Mercedes. The shooter and the pickup truck fled the scene.
The Ohio Department of Transportation released video footage captured by traffic cameras, which clearly depicts the crash.
