The Livingston County Sheriff’s Office has provided an update on their ongoing investigation into the death of an individual found in Tyrone Township on August 2. Deputies have confirmed that the cause of death was related to a dog attack.
On that day, Animal Control Deputies from the Livingston County Sheriff’s Office were conducting follow-up at a residence on Faussett Rd. in Tyrone Township. They were there to serve the homeowner a court notice for a show-cause hearing, as the homeowner’s dog had recently been involved in a serious dog attack incident.
The dog in question was identified as a Mastiff mix breed. When the Animal Control Deputies arrived at the residence to make contact with the homeowner, they found the 68-year-old resident and dog owner in a cattle pasture on the property. It was observed that the dog was actively biting the resident’s body at that time.
Unfortunately, the resident was pronounced deceased on-scene, with injuries consistent with a dog attack. Due to the dog’s aggressive behavior towards both the victim and emergency personnel, the dog was euthanized at the scene to allow medical aid to be administered.
The identity of the victim has not been released, and no foul play is suspected. The victim’s body has been transported to Sparrow Hospital in Lansing for an autopsy, and the official cause and manner of death are pending investigation.
The Livingston County Sheriff’s Office Detective Bureau is currently investigating the incident, with assistance from the Hartland Deerfield Fire Department and Livingston County EMS.
