On July 27, 2023, at approximately 6:33 AM, deputies from the Cabazon Sheriff’s Station responded to an undisclosed location near Bonita Avenue and Elm Street in Cabazon in response to an unspecified disturbance. The deputies were informed that a male individual had engaged in a verbal altercation with another male suspect. The suspect, later identified as 44-year-old Sergio Gutierrez, physically assaulted the victim using a large wooden object and inflicted multiple stab wounds. Gutierrez promptly fled the scene before the deputies’ arrival. The victim was promptly transported to a local medical facility, where they received medical treatment for injuries that were determined to be non-life threatening.
On August 1, 2023, Gutierrez was apprehended in Cabazon and subsequently arrested for the assault. He was subsequently booked into the Larry D. Smith Correctional Facility on charges of attempted murder.
