An investigation is currently underway in South Carolina following the tragic death of a police officer on train tracks while responding to a call for assistance. The Easley Police Department received a request for help on the railroad tracks along East Main Street early Wednesday morning. In response, the police contacted North Norfolk Southern to halt train operations in the vicinity. Regrettably, one officer from the Easley PD, identified as 22-year-old Matthew Hare, lost his life on the tracks. The Pickens County Coroner’s Office reported that Officer Hare was attempting to rescue an individual in distress when he was struck by an approaching train. Despite immediate assistance, the officer was pronounced dead at the scene. In honor of the fallen officer, various law enforcement agencies held a processional later that day. The South Carolina Law Enforcement Division has been called upon to conduct further investigations.
