EL PASO, Texas – Border Patrol agents are seeking to detain a man and his nephew without bond following a three-vehicle crash on Monday morning that left nine people injured, including six migrants. The incident occurred after agents spotted a two-vehicle caravan in an area known for migrant smuggling. The agents followed the vehicles as they traveled along Strauss Road in Santa Teresa, New Mexico, before attempting to make a stop.

According to court documents, one of the drivers, identified as Andres Soriano, complied and pulled into the parking lot of Love’s Travel Shop. However, the other driver, David Alexis Bojorquez, allegedly ignored the flashing lights and sirens of the Border Patrol vehicles and crossed the Texas state line. Bojorquez then made a sharp turn into the parking lot of a Carl’s Jr. restaurant and continued to speed down the Interstate 10 service road.

Texas Department of Public Safety troopers pursued Bojorquez until he ran a red light and collided with a silver passenger vehicle at the intersection with Redd Road. The collision caused injuries to all occupants of the vehicle, including a child. Another vehicle was also struck but its occupants were unharmed.

Bojorquez fled on foot but was apprehended by DPS troopers and Border Patrol agents. During questioning, Bojorquez allegedly admitted that an unidentified man in Mexico instructed him to transport unauthorized migrants from New Mexico to a predetermined location in El Paso. He claimed he would receive $500 for each migrant transported.

Soriano, Bojorquez’s nephew, told investigators that he had acted as a decoy driver in previous migrant smuggling events orchestrated by the same individual in Mexico. Both men are now facing federal charges of conspiring to aid and abet the transportation of illegal aliens.

The federal government is requesting that both men be held without bond due to their ties to Mexico and the risk of flight. Soriano’s detention hearing is scheduled for Friday morning. For more news and updates on issues along the U.S.-Mexico border, visit BorderReport.com..
