Man Hospitalized and Suspect Arrested Following Carthage shooting
Carthage, Mississippi – A violent incident unfolded on Sunday afternoon in Carthage, leaving one man hospitalized and another behind bars. Carthage Police received a distress call reporting shots fired at the Canton Road Manor apartments on Red Dog Rd. at approximately 3 p.m. on July 30, 2023.

Upon arrival, officers discovered a man suffering from a gunshot wound to his back. The victim was immediately rushed to Baptist Memorial Hospital – Leake before being transferred to a medical facility in Jackson. Carthage Police Department Investigator, Ray Chamblee, revealed that the chaotic scene involved two shooters, both of whom discharged dozens of rounds. Remarkably, the victim managed to return fire amidst the chaos.
Authorities have identified Tyrese Tims, a 20-year-old resident of Carthage, as one of the initiating shooters. Tims has been apprehended and now faces multiple charges, including aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, shooting into a dwelling, felony obstruction-tampering with physical evidence, discharging a firearm within city limits, driving without a license, lack of insurance, and improper equipment.
