A newly-married man was killed and his bride injured in firing in Pehlwan Goth, Karachi. The brother of the bride opened fire on the couple in the name of honor and fled the scene. The deceased and injured got married a month ago without family permission. The injured girl is in critical condition. The police are investigating the incident. Tribune reported
Newly-Married Man Killed and Bride Injured in Honor Killing Incident in Karachi
KARACHI: A tragic incident occurred in Pehlwan Goth within the Gulistan-e-Jauhar area, where a newly-married man was shot dead and his bride was injured. According to the police, the brother of the bride opened fire on the couple in the name of honor and then fled the scene. The deceased, identified as 26-year-old Muhammad Safdar, and the injured girl, identified as 20-year-old Zahra Batool, had married against their families’ permission a month ago.
The bodies of the deceased and the injured girl were immediately shifted to Jinnah Hospital. Zahra Batool sustained a critical gunshot wound above her left eye, while Safdar received multiple fatal bullets in his waist and below his neck. Currently, Zahra Batool is in the intensive care unit of the neurology ward, and her condition remains critical.
Upon receiving news of the incident, SHO Gulistan-e-Jauhar Inspector Iftikhar Arain rushed to Jinnah Hospital. However, none of the relatives of the injured woman or the deceased reached the hospital. Safdar hailed from Tehsil Jalalpur Pirwala in Multan, while Zahra Batool belonged to Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa.
Safdar worked at a restaurant in Pehlwan Goth and lived in the same vicinity. He and Zahra Batool had fallen in love and decided to get married without their families’ consent. Zahra’s mother was aware of their marriage. On Sunday, Batool’s mother had invited the couple to her house. However, late at night, Batool’s brother, Abbas Hussain, arrived home unexpectedly and upon discovering his sister and Safdar together, he took out a pistol and fired at them before fleeing the scene.
