Motorcyclist Identified as Brent Long Dies After Colliding with Tandem Bicycle

Jul. 31—The Boulder County Coroner’s Office has identified the motorcyclist who tragically lost his life after colliding with a tandem bicycle as Brent Long.

Long, a 58-year-old resident of Ward, was pronounced dead at the scene on Saturday. The accident occurred on Lefthand Canyon Drive when Long’s motorcycle collided with the eastbound tandem bicycle.

According to Colorado State Patrol Trooper Gabriel Moltrer, the incident took place at approximately 12:08 p.m. near Spring Gulch Road, northwest of Gold Hill. Long, who was heading westbound on Lefthand Canyon Drive, veered across the center line, resulting in the collision.

The tandem bicycle was occupied by a 64-year-old male from Longmont, who sustained serious injuries, and a 45-year-old female, also from Longmont, who suffered moderate injuries, Moltrer confirmed.

After the collision, Long was propelled off his motorcycle as it veered south off Lefthand Canyon Drive and struck a large tree branch. The motorcycle then continued down an embankment and into Lefthand Creek.

Both cyclists involved in the incident were transported to nearby hospitals. Notably, all individuals, including Long, were wearing helmets at the time of the accident.
