A cold case from 14 years ago, initially believed to be a tragic drug-related accident, has recently been solved by the police in Łódź, Poland. The case involved the death of a 33-year-old man from Zduńska Wola, whose body was discovered in a forest near Słubice. Upon investigation, it was determined that the cause of death was a ruptured pouch in his stomach, which contained amphetamine sulfate, a potent stimulant drug that he was smuggling.
Initially, the case was put on hold in 2009 due to insufficient evidence linking the man’s death to any criminal activity. However, during the investigation of a missing woman from Sieradz, the police stumbled upon the cold case from 14 years ago. After reanalyzing the collected material, they identified a 52-year-old man with a history of criminal involvement, who was believed to be connected to the 33-year-old’s death. Additionally, three other men, aged between 46 and 60, were identified as accomplices in both the death and the smuggling operation.
On July 25, the four suspects were arrested and brought to the District Prosecutor’s Office in Sieradz. They were charged with committing crimes that caused significant social harm, with the death of the 33-year-old man being classified as a felony. Two of the suspects were already serving sentences for previous offenses and were brought from the Penitentiary in Sieradz and the Detention Center in Łódź, respectively. The court ordered temporary detention for three of the suspects.
The investigation remains ongoing, as the police continue to explore the involvement of other individuals connected to the man’s death and the smuggling of narcotics and psychotropic substances.
