Multiple Tragedies on Lake Lanier Leave Two dead and One Missing

ATLANTA — Over the weekend, Lake Lanier experienced multiple tragic incidents resulting in two fatalities and one person still missing. The first incident occurred last Thursday when a man, identified as 24-year-old Thomas Milner, was electrocuted after jumping off a dock into the lake near Lanier Beach South Road in Forsyth County. According to witnesses, Milner entered the water from his family’s dock and was heard screaming shortly after. Neighbors rushed to help and described feeling a burning sensation upon entering the water, recognizing it as an electric shock. They swam ashore, turned off the power box, and pulled Milner from the water. Despite their efforts, Milner later succumbed to his injuries at Northside Forsyth Hospital.

The second tragedy took place on Saturday when a 61-year-old man, Tracey Stewart, drowned while swimming from a boat near East Bank Park. Game wardens and Hall County fire rescue personnel initiated a search for Stewart after he failed to resurface. Using boat-mounted sonar and ROV technology, authorities located Stewart’s body under 46 feet of water just after 9 p.m.

The search continues for a 27-year-old man who went missing while swimming near Van Pugh Park on Saturday. Game wardens and Hall County fire crews have been tirelessly searching the water, but no further details about the missing individual have been released by the Georgia Department of Natural Resources.

These tragic incidents serve as a reminder of the potential dangers associated with water activities. Authorities urge everyone to exercise caution and follow safety guidelines to prevent any further accidents..
