The incident took place in the 2000 block of Santa Fe Avenue, a commercial-industrial area north of the Gardena (91) Freeway.

Deputies from the Sheriff’s Information Bureau were alerted to the situation on Saturday at 4:03 p.m. after receiving a call regarding a gunshot victim. Upon arrival, they discovered Cortez with multiple gunshot wounds to his upper body. Tragically, Compton Fire Department paramedics pronounced him dead at the scene.

As of now, the authorities have not released any information regarding the suspect(s) involved in the shooting.
